“for this performance, I am going to do a homage/eulogy to two guitarists who passed away last year and influenced me the most: Lou reed and Jim Hall. It will be a structured improvisation based on a microtonal interpretation of various songs, motifs, riffs, and phrases from their work that I will weave together into one long-form piece. while they might seem incongruous as guitarists, their unique vision of the instrument led me to the kind of melodic, drone-based microtonality that I have been exploring on both ‘oud and guitar for the last 20 years or so.” Sam Shalabi
