BAC Design · Rana Salam: Capturing Culture

Beirut Art Center is happy to launch BAC design, a program dedicated to promoting creative products for sale made by local designers, continuing the center’s commitment to strengthen and develop local cultural initiatives.

BAC design will present a series of exhibitions lasting between two and five weeks displaying products by Lebanese designers on the second floor of Beirut Art Center. Each exhibition will showcase work that follows a specific theme by one designer or a design collective, helping them reach a wide clientele for their products, which range from furniture to fashion, jewellery to ceramics. Beirut Art Center hopes to help increase these designers’ exposure to the public, while allowing their work to be viewed in the context of a contemporary art space. Capturing Culture, the first show in the program, is the theme for London/Beirut based graphic designer and artist Rana Salam’s new line of products for interiors; these products derive from personal treasures that capture nostalgic moments from our everyday.

Salam’s knowledge of Arab culture and its popular art stems from years of travelling and documenting. She then merges her collected ephemera and imagery with the latest technology to create a unique graphic language that is bold and brightly colored – her signature style.

Rana Salam has been running her own London and now Beirut based design studio for over a decade, producing distinctive designs for clients which include Harvey Nichols, Villa Moda, Liberty of London, Bokja Design, Boutique 1, the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), and Paul Smith.

Salam has also launched www.mishmaoul.com, a successful online store selling her own creations and a collection of accessories, art, prints and one of a kind objects.
