Nabil Mroueh: from Bach to Varese

Writing or playing music for an unaccompanied instrument can be considered as a monophonic kind of music, an ancient type that humans have always practiced. Despite all the various phases of evolution that occurred in life and music, the monophony continues to exist and progress throughout time and one of the reasons for this is that it is the echo of our inner sound, the sound of “nature”. Playing or writing music for an unaccompanied flute seems to be a simple task, yet it is hard to tackle. The performer faces tough challenges to recreate from his limited instrument all the musical motives, ideas, and atmospheres that can eventuate a solid accomplished musical text.
