April 27, 2016 - June 29, 2016

For esma’/listen, marc Codsi, Lebanese composer and musician will activate the work of artist duo, Melissa dubbin & Aaron Davidson titled volumes for sound (2010 – 2015). The sculptures of volumes for sound compose a score of shapes: those of the hi-fi furniture that usually encase the home listening equipment. Serving simultaneously as a stage, listening device, and sculpture, the resulting construction of geometric forms hosts inverted speakers. The sound of amplified music produced during performances is muffled by these filtering entities. The piece requires the listeners to lend an attentive ear and to over-activate their availability to the music. A documentation of previous exhibitions and the different displacements produced by the activations of the volumes will be completed during the show and throughout the performances which will be held on 27 April, 11 May, 1 and 29 June.

Marc Codsi, born in 1979, is a Lebanese composer, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist. He was a member of emblematic Lebanese rock band scrambled eggs for many years, before focusing his attention on electro-rock duo Lumi and his own solo activities. He released his first solo album in 2010, a poetic manifesto entitled faded postcards, followed by works & coincidences in 2013. Codsi composed music for several film soundtracks, including Je veux voir (Khalil Joreige & Joana Hadjithomas), Beirut hotel (Danielle Arbid), and most notably only lovers left alive (Jim Jarmusch).
