Ghida Hachicho: body, space and the interplay

Ghida Hachicho

January 27, 2016 - January 29, 2016

After the dabkeh workshop with Malek Andary, body, space and the interplay with Ghida Hachicho is the second of a series of workshops led by some of the performers of Xavier le Roy’s “retrospective” that was hosted by Beirut art center from September 22 to October 12, 2015. The series aims at sustaining the exchange momentum generated by “retrospective” and transmitting the performers’ experience of dance and performance to a wider audience.

The three-day workshop with “retrospective” performer Ghida Hachicho is based on various practical exercises through which the participants will discover the reflexive relationship between space and body, addressing both as information that are constantly shaping one another. dissecting this relationship, or isolating one side of these different connections produces new conditions and tools to think about the body in space or the space around the body. Theoretical references and previous works by architects and artists that explore different notions of this interplay will also be used and examined in an attempt at generating a comprehensive approach to dance and performance.

Ghida Hachicho was born in 1989. She is a scenographer and dancer based in Beirut. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the American University of Beirut in 2012, where she was granted several awards and recognitions. She uses performance and installation to explore the intersection between the architectural space and the moving body or the architectural body and the moving space. Her first collaborative performance traces of absence (2015) was recently presented in sunflower theater.
