Tarek Atoui: i.o.f

Tarek Atoui

October 31, 2013 5:00 pm

In this workshop, Tarek Atoui will share with the participants his research and ideas on the notions of instrument, collective composition, site-specific, duration, and score. What is an instrument today? What is a collective instrument and what new ideas does this notion offer in terms of collective composition and improvisation? In the continuity of Stockhausen and Cardew’s works, Atoui questions the notion of durational composition and of graphical score today. What is composing “in, out, and from” outdoor environments and public spaces? And what horizons does this approach open, when it comes to performance, sound production, and site-specific work?

Each day, following a presentation by Atoui of his recent and ongoing projects created for Documenta 13,  Sharjah biennial 11, and fiac 2013, the workshop participants will be invited to work with the artist individually or in groups, to imagine theoretical and practical applications and translations of the presented concepts according to each one’s filed of work and interest. On the 3rd of November, the participants are invited to share the outcomes of the workshop with a wider audience if they wish to.
